Fellow ravers: Our inaugural episode of Rave The Vote was a huge success and we couldn’t be proud of this community. More than 600,000 of you tuned in from all over the world to dance and vibe-in-quarantine to truly immaculate sets by underground tastemakers like Ash Lauryn, DJ Spinna, Seth Troxler, and Soul Clap. And along the way, you educated yourselves with talks from luminaries like Miss Barbie-Q and Dr. Cornel West, who underlined the importance of recognizing our musical roots: From blues, soul, funk, and disco sprang techno and house. He also reminded us that dancing is an inherently brave act, especially in periods of grave uncertainty or oppression. “It is a profoundly human thing, but you’ve got to have the courage inside of you to be willing to groove,” he said. “You’ve got to have the courage inside of you to bring the funk.”
We’re now gearing up for Episode 2, which is packed to the brim with festival-ripping party crews and house music heavyweights who understand, better than anyone, how to create a vibe. From SoCal ambassadors Desert Hearts to Dirtybird’s Justin and Christian Martin to electro-pop innovators Sofi Tukker, there will be plenty of moments to dress up and get down. We’ve also got some of Chicago and Detroit’s finest, including DJ Heather and Dantiez and Kevin Saunderson (the latter of whom, if you aren’t already familiar, was a member of the Belleville Three). You can expect more educational segments for episode 2, featuring Recreation and Parks Commissioner of Los Angeles and Chief Strategist of CicLAvia Tafarai Bayne, comedian and journalist Francesca Fiorentini, the KCRW Radio DJs, Executive Producer of the Coachella livestream and founder of URB Magazine Raymond Roker, and voter trivia with Miss Barbie-Q.
If you’re just joining us, welcome. We are a group of musicians, electronic music obsessives, and community activists who believe that, no matter your views, your vote counts. Split into twelve-hour broadcasts and streamed exclusively on Twitch, Rave the Vote is scheduled to take place over four days between July and October in the lead-up to the November election with the goal of getting viewers to register to vote and to donate to the Movement for Black Lives.
